What’s in my Closet?

What’s in my closet?
Peek in and see!
Do you see flowers?
And maybe a tree?
Do you see butterflies?
Can you find three?

Can you see animals?
Maybe a bear?
Do you see little squirrels
hiding in there?
Look and you might find
a prickly pear!

Look a bit harder -
perhaps you will meet
a fairy to fly with,
a pixie to greet,
a siren to sing with,
her voice is so sweet!

Keep right on looking!
You might come across
a babbling brook
with a bridge you can cross,
and under the bridge
you’ll find moss-covered rocks!

Look past the bridge -
there’s a mountain out there!
It’s fun to go hiking
in fresh mountain air,
and up near the top
you just might find a lair…

Who lives in the lair?
Go on inside and look!
You may have seen pictures,
perhaps in a book,
of dragons so fierce
that you sat there and shook!

But that’s not who’s there.
There’s no need to be frightened.
Just look in my closet,
you’ll soon be enlightened
to find a NICE dragon
who’s shoes have been tightened.

What’s that you say?
A dragon with shoes?
He lives in my closet
where shoes come in two’s,
and a dragon that’s nice
has got nothing to lose!

So he wears all my shoes,
and he laces them tight,
and he walks all around
that big mountain all night,
and he keeps going ’till
he’s gone right out of sight!

And he cannot wear shoes
without comfortable socks,
so he takes all of mine
when he goes for his walks.
But wait! Mom is here!
I can tell how she knocks…

Close up my closet,
We can’t let her see!
She won’t understand -
why, she might even flee
if she spies a small flower,
or even a tree.

So when my Mom asks
where my socks are all at,
And you’ve run out of answers
and twice blamed the cat,
just remember the dragon
who just would not halt,
and tell her you’re sorry,
and say it’s your fault!
