Being Mommy

“Time for bed,” said Mommy. “Jump into bed, sleepyhead.”

“Okay, Mommy.” Matt said.

“What was you favorite thing about today?” asked Mommy as she tucked in the covers clear up to Matt’s chin.

“I really liked it when Daddy brought home the Box!” exclaimed Matt.

“The Box?” said Mommy, “Why was that your favorite thing?”

“Oh Mommy, that is no ordinary box! It can change into anything I want it to be.”

“Really?” Mommy questioned.

“Yes! Just today it turned into a pirate ship. I sailed the oceans and searched for buried treasure,” said Matt.

“And where did you find it?” said Mommy.

“The treasure was hidden in the kitchen. It was a jar full of cookies! That is the best treasure of all!” Matt said. The thought of cookies made his mouth start to water all over again.

“That sounds like fun!” said Mommy.

“Yeah, but that’s not all. After that the Box changed into a spaceship. I was an astronaut and we blasted off to the moon,” said Matt.

“All the way to the moon? That’s a long way from home.” Mommy observed.

“I wasn’t scared. I got to float in space and make friends with an alien. He is going to come to my house to play next time. ” Matt explained.

“And then what happened?” said Mommy.

“I came back home and my box changed again!” stated Matt with a yawn.

“What a silly box! What was it this time?” asked Mommy.

“It was a castle. I was the king and we had to keep out the dragon. He was a mean dragon, but then we gave him some ice cream and he turned into a nice dragon. ” Matt said as he rubbed his eyes.

“Sounds exciting. I can see why your favorite part of your day was when the Box came home. What are you going to do tomorrow?”

But there was no more noise from Matt. He was so tired from all his adventures he had fallen to sleep. Mommy gave him a kiss and quietly left the room as Matt drifted off to dreamland.
